If you are concerned with the "safety" of an area, you can contact the Alachua County Sheriff's Office or the Gainesville Police Department for the crime statistics in that area. Under the Sheriff's web site, go to the search database. If this does not give you enough information, then call Liz Kubisek at (352) 367-4009. Under the Gainesville Police Department's web site, you cango to operations and look under north & south districts to find the Leutenant in charge of that area and call him/her directly. You can also call the Community Resource Division at (352) 334-2479 and speak to Officer Bill Billings for information on an area.
